#okay but like#I need to talk about this a little#because while I feel the entire chapter contained this theme#this moment was the clearest instance of it:#Elena Fisher does not need anyone’s protection#never has#right before this Nate is panicking because he thinks she’s helpless (‘she’s a sitting duck in there’) and needs him to save her#and then he gets to the top of the cliff#and this glorious moment happens#she doesn’t need a white knight#she needs a partner#they’re a team of equals#and I think somewhere along the line Nate forgot that#(I mean he says as much at the start of the next chapter)#it was just really wonderful to see her back in the action the way she was in 1 and 2#AND incorporating that return to adventure as part of the larger arc of her and Nate’s relationship#I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS ABOUT CHAPTER 17
